Non Motorised Facilities

Scope of works: The work will entail the construction of new non-motorised facilities and the rehabilitation of existing non-motorised facilities in the Blaauwberg District. It has been determined that most of the work will be done by hand as the areas of work is located within built-up areas and in close proximity to existing infrastructure. Special care will be taken with regards to the protection of these existing features whilst construction is underway.

Scope of works: Garden Route Dam is a 39m high embankment dam constructed in 1980. It has a 25m wide by-wash spillway and channel on the right flank with a reinforced concrete sill, training walls ,and the upper portion of the channel lined with reinforced concrete.
The works entail raising the FSL by 2.56m by constructing a new concrete spillway upstream of the existing one and connecting onto the existing training walls. The top of the embankment, the NOC, will be raised 1.76m using earth and rock.

Scope of works: Transnet is undertaking a major programme of projects in Cape Town, Saldanha and Postmasburg to upgrade and expand the capacity of their infrastructure. The scope of this project is to sustain the materials handling capacity at Saldanha Port by the addition of a third Tippler. Amandla Construction will be responsible for the Conveyor CV-308 take-up , Conveyor CV-308 counterweight take-up tower, Transfer Tower TT-301, Conveyor CV-309,Conveyor CV-309 take-up, Conveyor CV-309 Counterweight take-up tower, Transfer Tower TT-302 and Conveyor CV-310 civil works. The civil works will include earthworks and layerworks, foundation, concrete plinths, concrete slabs, concrete reinforcement, surface beds and grouting for the abovementioned sections of work.

Scope of works: An Amandla Umzali Joint Venture. The specific objective of this project is to increase the serviceable life of Main Road 240 from Vredenburg to Paternoster by rehabilitating and upgrading the existing pavement layers, improve the drainage where required and add new surfacing to the road surface. Also included, is the improvement of the safety of the road by widening of the surface width of the road, geometric realignment of certain sections of the road to improve sight distance, the upgrading of certain intersections on this section of road by surfacing and the improvement of the road signs and road markings.
Non- Motorised Transport
Scope of works: The upgrading of the Kruskal Ave Spine will be completed in 2 separate phases. Included in the Phase 1 upgrade will be the Durban & Voortrekker road intersection which includes a traffic signal upgrade and the extension of the centre islands to allow for safer pedestrian crossing. The Kruskal Ave Spine will be merged into one surface, altering the road alignment to eliminate the use of any kerbs. The new surface will be sloped to drain into existing stormwater infrastructure with the minor addition of stormwater pipes to convey overload flow into the existing stormwater system.
The realigned Spine will be paved with the addition of various hard & soft landscaping features.

Scope of works: The work includes the reconstruction, rehabilitation and repair of certain existing concrete roads in sections of Hanover Park. The majority of roadwork consists of ”crack &seal” rehabilitation of concrete roads whereby the existing concrete road is cracked in order to perform as a flexible base-course and the road is topped with a bitumen-rubber asphalt layer 40mm thick. In some instances, widening of the existing roadway is also required and in all cases new kerb & channel is provided, stormwater gullies and pipework repaired/replaced and new asphalt surfaced sidewalks and brick paved road verges are constructed. The end product is a ”fence to fence” improvement in the road reserve.

Bulk Earth Works
Value: R25 M
Scope of works: The landfill is shaped according to the engineers drawings of the final contours to reduce the steepness of the slopes to below a ratio of 1:3. This includes the removal and stockpiling of the existing temporary cover material, excavating into waste material and filling and compacting this waste onto other portions of the landfill. The entire landfill will be covered with a low permeability layer.
Scope of works: An Amandla Umzali Joint Venture. The reseal of Main Road 279 and Main Road 191 near Villiersdorp. For the reseal of MR 279, pre-treatment including patch repair and the total surface to be resealed with a split seal i.e. a 190mm seal with a bitumen rubber tack coat followed by a double 6.7mm seal with polymer modified hot binder penetration coat and fog spray. For the reseal of MR 191, pre-treatment including patch repairs and the total surface to be resealed with a single i.e. a 13.2mm seal with a bitumen rubber tack coat and fog spray.

Scope of works: The construction of a new sports field and related services, consisting of demolition of existing fencing replaced with a new fence around the field, filling and grass planting to proposed area, stormwater drainage systems, including manholes, irrigation system with water supply and field equipment.

Scope of works: An AmandlaUmzali Joint Venture. Jip de Jager is an important Class 2 road between Durbanville and the N1. The existing road is constructed up to the Vineyards Office Park. Jip de Jager was extended up to Tygerbergvalley road as a single carriageway. At the intersection of Tygerbergvalley road, Jip de Jager road was constructed as a dual carriageway to increase the intersection capacity. The watermain in Old Oak Road was also replaced.

Scope of works: The work consists of the construction of a Landfill Gas Collection and Flaring System. The work generally includes but is not limited to the installation of a gas collection wellfield, landfill gas wells, a network of buried HDPE gas collection piping, the installation of condensate traps and a condensate pumping chamber.

Scope of works: Resealing of the Main Road 217 and Divisional Road 1102 near Durbanville. The project comprised large-scale repairs, patching and existing pavement repair.

Scope of works: Resurfacing, repair and upgrading of the Dal Josaphat Athletics Track in Paarl. The project included the installation of synthetic track surfacing and storm water drainage. The track is the first, Class 1 IAAF approved track in the Western Cape and only the second of its kind in South Africa.

Scope of works: Access roads and other bulk civil engineering works at the Bellville Waste Management Facility. It included the upgrade of the Modderdam and Peter Barlow road intersection.
Scope of works: Amandla carried out flood damage repairs to the existing Stettynskloof access road. Works also included repairs to damaged drain structures, gabions, and repairs and protection works to the water pipe line at various positions.
Scope of works: Flood damage repairs to structures in the Central Eden DM Region, Heidelberg North.
Scope of works: Construction of non-motorised transport facilities along major roads in the Somerset West and Strand area.

Scope of works: Amandla Construction is the sub-contractor to Tyris Construction for the bulk earthworks of the new 160 KVA sub-station for Eskom.
Scope of works: The remediation of the Atlantis Landfill site, the rehabilitation of an access road and the erection of a security fence in order to render the area safe, secure and fully compliant with the relevant environmental policies and legislation.

Scope of works: Upgrade of the Divisional Road 1123 between Perdeberg and Klipheuwel in the Paarl area from a gravel road to a surfaced road, with the addition of a separate pedestrian walkway.

Scope of works: Upgrading of Distillery Road, Wellington by rebuilding and widening the existing road, installing new kerbing and sidewalks, repositioning existing services and installing storm water culverts.

Scope of works: Rehabilitation of Divisional Road 1126 between Windmeul (KM 18.85) and Main Road 218 and between Windmeul (KM 5.56) and Paarl. The project also included the construction of a 1850m municipal rising water main pipe line and a 1850m municipal gravity main water pipe, with associated valve chambers and house connections.
Scope of works: Civil engineering infrastructure for approximately 182 erven.
